Dragon Statue

sfdragonstatue.gif This large stone statue of a dragon stands in the South Forest, in the southwest part of the south-of-scout sn'ell. It's surrounded by a ring of flowers--I have not heard of anyone tending the flowers, so it's possible they grow like that because of some magic in the statue.

The statue was clearly the product of a civilization advanced enough to carve a large block of stone, and with the artistic ability to make it into a statue. I believe this rules out the T'rool and Orga as the sculptors. The exit from the crypts under the Undine Hut comes out here, so it's possible that the sculptor was from the same civilization that made the crypts. However, it's just as possible that the tunnel was dug to the statute at a latter time.

Additionally, the dragon depicted by the statue looks very different from the drakes that are sometimes found in South Forest. This could be the result of artistic license on the part of the sculptor, but it could also mean that such dragons were once found in the islands.

WorldWalker offered the theory that this may not be a statue at all, but rather a real dragon that has been petrified due to some unknown magic. This is possible, but would be rather hard to verify.
