Stuck in Boise away from you-all, I've sought out another club, Lost River Cyclists (the name is simliar!). They also have Thursday Night Time Trials. I wasn't sure I could find it, so I did a 37 mile after work ride thinking I crossed that Hubbard road somewhere. I did, about mile 30. They were all registered with about 5 minutes to start but encouraged me to ride. Well, the registration person isn't as understanding as Jeanne who often lets late riders leave at times appropriate to their spped instead of leaving last as a just punishment for not arriving in time to register!. So, I ended up departing as rider 22 out of 25. Things didn't see right. Although my fenders and 36 spoke wheels looked appropriate at the starting line with all the best racing equipment in the Boise Valley, the pavement was smooth black-top without sealcoat! There were only 3 people to pass me! I was headed up-hill with a slight tail wind. I think I saw my speedometer fall to 16 on the steepest part of the climb, but from the turn around it was downhill. A finish time of 28:27 may be my record; do I miss the stong wind from the West???

These guys are so spoiled by living on the Western extreme of the time zone, that it was their final time trial of the year. It's no longer safe riding after 9:00 p.m. when dusk begins to fade. They start at 7:00, so even the people with the worst retail sales jobs can be there, but light only until 9:00 is bad making it difficult to cycle back to town by dusk. (N ID should have such problems at the end of Aug!) Anyway, they celebrated with Pizza just like we do, but for the most part people sat quietly in their own seats eating pizza. No moving around chatting with everyone.

Have fun at the Pizza Party, and feel free to move around a lot chatting with all!

Steve
