After a long week of rainy days, the rains held off on Saturday leaving us dry but a little cold. Lots of rain jackets and winter wear appeared this morning. But there were some shorts and shirt sleeves as well. That's okay, you'll warm up climbing Tammany.
Club members savored the thought of novice riders tackly our favorite hill, MacIntosh. But then it was one of our own, Jan, who dropped a chain and bailed out to the edge of the road. (In the interest of full disclosure I also dropped a chain near the top of MacIntosh and had to stop to put it back.)
Nicky might have let us do 20 mph down Bryden. While the crowd wasn't big, I always feel uncomfortable with riders all around, especially when I don't know them. Having a police escort helped at the intersection and being bunched up put us all quickly on the road to Tammany.
Club members quickly outpaced many other riders who were on mountain bikes and cruisers. Although Lance, you stopped to remove a jacket, insisted we were setting too fast a pace, we stayed around 16 mph all the way up.
Clif, you're getting awfully close to that cruuiser.
Nicky, Lance, and I each took a turn riding to the back. That club mentality of never leaving anyone behind is hard to break--but then, they said it wasn't a race and it seemed silly to ride hard and never see anyone.
Ellen, it's not going to rain.
We had time to speak with lots of folks including potentional new club members. A sunnier day might have had more folks turn out, but this was a success. Hey, and there was more food than we could eat. Thanks to World Gym for sponsoring a cycling event for their charity. Thanks to Nicky for lending her expertise to World Gym and Good luck to Ryliegh.
