I am another cyclist who has had the privilege of being a member of both TRC and LRC. In fact, I can take partial credit for organizing the racers in TRC into "Team Buckaroo" in '93 and then into "The Blue Shield of Idaho Cycling Team" the following year. I say partial credit because several other people had a hand in it as well such as Jim Kleeburg, Vern Oft and Peter Beall. Vern and I also spearheaded the first Devil's Slide dirt race at Hell's Gate.
Steve is so correct, there is no greater MC than Jim K. (especially with a few brews in him).
I've been racing for LRC for five years now and can clear up a few of Steve's questions. LRC is an LLC (limited liability corporation) and has a board of trusties so the money is accounted for. "Feeds" have been used by LRC in the past but mingling is much easier when members aren't sitting at a table stuffing their skinny cycling frames...it works better to stuff your face while walking around drinking beer. Unlike TRC where the club came first and a racing element was added, LRC was a race team for several years before adding a club which is now the largest in Idaho.
Happy trails!
