Summer Ride Schedule

Steve, adds this explanation of the Mission Creek fat tire ride.

The mountain bike ride up Mission Creek is one of my favorites. It's roughly 20 miles from Jacques Spur to Winchester up this beautiful canyon with a road that hasn't been passable to vehicles since the 30's or 40's that climbs from roughly 1300 feet to 4500 feet before dropping back to Winchester at 4000 ft. The lower part of the valley is wide and farmed but within 5 miles we pass through an old limestone quarry, where the county road ends and for the next few miles there is usually a nice double track. We have a couple of creek crossings- Mission Creek is big enough this can be a challenge while keeping your feet dry. The 3rd crossing is easy on foot, but 4 wheelers can't make it over the steep banks, so thereafter part of the trail is single track. About 3 miles out of Winchester we catch the old logging road out of Mission Creek canyon up onto the hill that separates Mission creek from Winchester Lake drainage, and we'll coast down into town for a lunch at the Hi-Land Inn.

We can return the same way, or head north of town and turn west into the Crystal Creek drainage, which is much steeper (Sean Ellis & Mike Riddle not known for their slow descents, both wrecked here two years ago!) and which rejoins Mission Creek about half way up the "roadless" section.

We'll have two departures: the main group will leave Jacques Spur at 10:00 a.m. having driven gas guzzlers there to join the smaller group of cyclists who ride out under their own power. That smaller group will leave the Southway Boat Ramp by 8:00. Sean suggested the 6:30 I had planned on was only an hour and a half after sunrise and might be too early for some of you! This will put us in Winchester after the noon hour, so you may want to bring a snack.

Although I'm listed as ride coordinator and love this ride, I am in the Guard, and we have a great emphasis on getting people activated that may interfer with my being there. Sean Ellis will lead the ride in that event! If you plan to ride from the Southway Boat docks, give me or Corrie Rosetti a call Saturday morning.

Happy cycling for fun, fitness, and TRANSPORTATION!

As a board we'll set rides for about the next month. You may see those on the club's Calendar Page.

Propose a Ride! If you have suggestions for rides you'd like to do, please feel free to send them to me at crosetti@cableone.net

All rides begin at the Southway Boat Launch unless otherwise noted. Rides are canceled for bad weather.
