Day 7: Hailey to Jerome
Day 7 Gallery
Can you say tail wind? The same breeze that rattled the rain fly all night keeping me awake blew us at over 20 mph most of the way to Shoshone where we back tracked Sundays course to Jerome.
A couple of rolling hills proved more fun than frightening. With a tail wind, Doug and I climbed the first at 17 to 20 mph or more. I spun and caught him near the top. Instead of waiting for the group Doug sped off building up speed for the next climb. This time we managed to show 31 miles per hour going up hill. Doug exclaimed, 31 mph up hill is the very definition of a tail wind. Thats what we had all the way to Shoshone. Nearly everyone found themselves hammering this morning.
Watermelon Man
We enjoyed our last water stop at Shoshone. Linda particularly enjoyed the watermelon man. The watermelon was delicious and his laugh infectious. Just one of the many good people who helped make this a great trip.
The 17 miles from Shoshone to Jerome had a head wind. But he real chilling wind, however, was our knowledge that this wonderful 7 days was nearly at an end. We lingered about the high school having lunch and talking of rides much longer than was strictly necessary. Im sure Linda and I will do another such tour.
The OBR would prefer a ridership of 2 to 3 hundred. There are no doubt economies of scale that apply at that level of ridership. We hope that the fine people of the OBR will not soon have to eliminate Bicycle Idaho.
