Sean's take on the Sunday Ride

I was surprised the heat did not keep more people away on this ride. I was thinking the night before that if I were not the ride coordinatior I would probably not be doing this ride.

The heat for the most part was bearable. We suffered a bit going up McCormick Ridge but as it was still early in the day it was not terrible. The wall section was pretty nasty but once we got past that and were in the trees we were all fairly comfortable.

As many of you know, I perspire a lot and things were no different on this ride. I brought one 4 liter bladder, a 3 liter bladder and I also drank 3+ water bottles, a total of ten liters of fluid. When I got home I checked my weight and I was still 4 pounds below my normal weight! I took me about 2 days to get my weight back up to where it should be.

I, like everyone else suffered a bit going up the last hill. I cramped a bit going up the hill, so I got off and walked parts of it. Tamra has been borrowing a mountain bike from me this year. When she passed me going up the hill while I was walking, I demanded it back! But she just shook her head and refused.

It was very enjoyable for me to ride with Tim again. Six years ago we used to ride together at least once a week. Now he has three children and I'm married so it's been a long time since we've been able to get together.

Thanks to all who drove the sag wagon.

    Helen's in Eruope, again!

Lots of castles here but not many internet places.

Scenery is beautiful but the weather has been cold and wet. Only 2 days that I could take my leg warmers off!

Food is very good for the most part. Our leader orders us extra vegetables at dinner so we get what most of us are used to.

They really like whip cream - last night we had it on a thin ham slice that had a horseradish cream filling. I thought that was over the top but a guy today had whip cream on his fish soup! It's been delicious though.

I would say this area is very typical of Eastern Europe. Lots of 16th century Italian Renaissance. Very charming and Quaint. the roads and bike paths are excellent.

I've never seen so many bikers.

Bye for now. Love Mom /Helen
