[David, I originally posted much of the following in http://www.smeed.org/529 but it should be in this thread too]

I am flattered that you cited respect for my opinion as one of the reasons you're considering the use of Conversant. I feel guilty for not having responded until now but Seth, Mark, Philippe, and Brian have already done an excellent job of highlighting the strengths of Conversant.

It's difficult to define why exactly I like Conversant so much but I get that prickly-hair-on-the-back-of-the-neck feeling when I contemplate the sheer elegance and depth of its underlying software architecture. It just feels right somehow. I got the same feeling about RISC computer architecture in the early 80s!

FWIW, I find that it's the inate flexibility of Conversant in terms of its interfaces for managing content - NNTP,HTTP,POP3,SMTP - coupled with its extensive capabilities for the presentation of the content - macros, templates, and stylesheets - that is the core attraction.

I know that I have just scratched the surface of Conversant's capabalities and thus far my site doesn't do it justice. And I appreciate I that I have depths still to plumb since sites such as Brian Carnell's and Mark Morgan's show that much more is possible. Despite appearances to the contrary I don't spend a great deal of time updating/managing www.smeed.org and I sometimes find that I've forgotten exactly whereabouts in the twisty little maze otherwise known as "the admin interface" I need to go to reconfigure parts of the site. But Seth has already declared that November is Make It Simpler, Stupid month so I have great hopes for an improvement in the admin interface.

Hopefully, later today I'll get a chance to repond to some of your direct questions.

Cheers,

Duncan
