   There's a song in this somewhere. (Matthew Patterson - 9:53:46 PM) ->
(Originally written Feb. 6)

The Outbreak

This is the web site of the youth group of the church I attended in Lake Jackson, TX before I moved to Louisiana several years ago. The place always turned me off somewhat - it was always rather intense, rather "Jesus Freak" in its particular theology. Those of you who know me know that I don't go in for that sort of thing. I could write an essay on that alone, but thankfully Sean McMains spared me the trouble. -_^ (What Would Jesus Play? and Attack of the Precious Moments - and by the way, I *do* look at the Goldberg Variations as a way to practice my faith, but then again everything I do relates to music anyway.)

Anyway, I wanted to see what they were up to lately because I'll be visiting this weekend on my way to go look at Rice University in Houston. Imagine my horror when I viewed this web site and realized that *none of this* that they have up there is what I believe in doing. Oh, the essential tenets of Christianity are there, all right, but there's such an emphasis on mass evangelism and what I call "pop" Christianity that I almost can't bear to read it. I suppose three years at an *extremely* Anglican school has made me more orthodox than most.

Song of the Random Time Interval: "I'll Cover You," RENT

Words of the Random Time Interval: Something eternal

News flash (Matthew Patterson - 6:03:11 PM) ->
Regular readers of this weblog will remember last spring, when I rhapsodized for quite a long time about the musical Once On This Island. I still think it ownz.

Today I bought the soundtrack at Barnes and Noble. They finally had it.

Suddenly, I feel fulfilled.

Damn, but I'm bored. (Matthew Patterson - 8:57:38 PM) ->
If third grade me could hear me now, he'd try to kick my ass. I want school to hurry up and start. I've got nothing to do but sit around the house and compulsively reload various online discussion boards in the vain hope that something new will have been posted in the second it took the page to load. Oh well, I don't have to wait long. School starts tomorrow. I'll have the same classes as before, except I switched my free period and math class. I had tried to schedule another class where the free period is now, but it got cancelled for lack of interest. (Like there's something wrong with having a four-person class.) I guess I'm glad I still get a free period, but the class would have been interesting.

Grr. Hurry up and get here, tomorrow morning!

Song of the Random Time Interval: "Fast as You Can," Fiona Apple
Item of the Random Time Interval: Transmission fluid
Words of the Random Time Interval: "Ladegard: In the boring version of SoS, we see Corwin pulling cable from Ygg to Cephiro."

CD explosion (Matthew Patterson - 3:09:48 PM) ->
Weirdness abounds during the holiday season. For instance, today I hit up the CD Warehouse. Got Fiona Apple's two albums, "Tidal" and "When the Pawn". Thus far, I'm on the third track of "When the Pawn," which is a little song called "Limp." You may have heard me go on about this one in the past. It's quite awesome.

So this is the weird thing. I was looking around the room today, and I noticed that my CD collection since 1995 numbers 28. 12 of these are from the past year, and 7 are from this holiday season. A bit of a statistical anomaly, that. Regardless, I need another CD tower.

Song of the Random Time Interval: "Love Ridden," Fiona Apple
Item of the Random Time Interval: CD Warehouse. For the purposes of this discussion, that's an item.
Words of the Random Time Interval: "When the pawn hits the conflict he thinks like a king..."
