Today I pay for yesterday's few hours of Cannon Spike. For some reason having to mash on two buttons simultaneously has an adverse effect on my wrist/arm. Go figure. But it can be so addictive. After Zero Gunner 2, it's the type of game I want more of. There's a reason I still haven't finished it, though. Compared to other Psikyo shooters, it feels a bit sloppy. I can't get a clear hit-free strategy on a few of the bosses. Some of it is in the bad angles of combat (snowboarding robot section), other times I just blame life bar syndrome.
But out of all Psikyo shooters, this game definitely has more of a "live" or chaotic feel (the 3 robot battle is one of the highlights). It would've been nice to see Psikyo explore this type of shooter like they did verticals: fine-tuning from decent stuff like Sengoku Ace to the amazing Gunbird 2 and Dragon Blaze. Cannon Spike is a good place to start, Zero Gunner 2 is perhaps their best work overall, so I can only imagine where they could've gone from there (Choaniki? no).
Another thing Zero Gunner 2 has me wanting to play: Ketsui. Home port? Guess it got skipped over with Galuda coming...
