Weblogs, Web Sites, and Lots More

What is Conversant?

Conversant is designed to help groups of all sizes work together by making it easy for them to share ideas, questions, files, and knowledge. It also has lots of features that make it very easy for a small group - or an individual - to publish dynamic web sites.

Conversant is software for your Internet (or Intranet) server. Standard features include tools for managing news pages and journals (weblogs), feature-rich event calendars, online discussion forums (with file enclosure capabilities), tools for publishing entire web sites, email and mailing-list integration, and many other services that are great for all kinds of business, project, and personal web sites and communication-centers.

Free-Conversant is Macrobyte's web site hosting service, based on Conversant. We offer everything from free sites, to inexpensive domain hosting, to dedicated Conversant (and traditional) servers.

What people are saying about Conversant...

This is the part I love about your software/company -- every time I ask a question, you reply with options, options and more options.
-- Brian Carnell

I'm beginning to use it and conversant is great. Congratulations Seth and Macrobyters.
-- David Harrod

The more I dig the more I'm impressed at just how well thought out Conversant is. This is really powerful stuff.
-- Duncan Smeed

Wow, This is what I called Super Charged Manila. Thanks for showing what is possible and great team work.
-- Paul Chow

Thanks, as always, for such a rapid response from the Macrobyte 'team'. You guys are great!
-- Duncan Smeed

I have fallen in love with your stylesheet tool. My intentions, however, are strictly honorable. I just did some things with h1, h2, and h3 even though I *still* don't really know how to code a stylesheet. Fantastic.
-- Mark Morgan

Conversant's Weblog II is incredible -- it's not done yet, but is already one of the most powerful online journaling tools around.
-- Greg Pierce

Power and flexibility! Five years, and I still can't get enough of this system.
-- Seth Dillingham

What's so exciting?

What's so exciting about this release of Conversant? It's the first! Before last Tuesday, Conversant itself wasn't available except through our hosting service, or through a consulting agreement with Macrobyte Resources.

This is the first public release of the software itself, ever. We hope you will visit Conversant Developer Central and give it a try.

[ANN] Conversant 1.0b1

After three years in development, Macrobyte Resources is pleased to announce the release of Conversant 1.0b1.

Hundreds of websites are already using Conversant through Macrobyte Resources consulting and hosting services including the ones hosted here, but this is the first public release of Conversant.

If you are a developer, read more about the release at Macrobyte's Conversant Developer's News Page.

If you're interested in trying out Conversant without installing it, sign up for a free hosted site or consider one of our paid hosting options. Visit Macrobyte Resources if you are interested in custom internet/intranet programming based on Conversant.

Brian Carnell has posted a end user's perspective on Conversant. Brian uses Conversant for his suite of independent websites, including the massive (and massively cross-indexed)

Announcement: TLS verson 0.2.4

Transport Layer Security version 0.2.4 is now available. TLS is available to Conversant users to provide secure connection across the Internet, for things like shopping carts and any other cases where security is important.

(Note: this is prerelease software. The contents of the full release may be significantly different. Watch for updates.)

Upgade to the admin system

There are some upgrades to Conversant's browser-based administration system. We made some small changes to make some of the various control panels and prefences easier to use, and made some parts of it faster. For more details, see the announcement at the support site.

New look for, one of Brian Carnell's suite of Conversant powered websites/mailing lists, has recently gotten a much-needed appearance upgrade. Brian's sites are an excellent example of Conversant-based knowledge management, and now at least one is much easier on the eyes.
