These are very misleading statistics. Figures for Japanese Internet usage are grossly inflated due to the inclusion of web-enabled cell phones which are are used by Japanese teenagers to send messages to each other. The number of what we in the U.S. would think of as users - surfers and on-line purchasers - is much, much lower.
