Special Report: Tenebrion Injured on Etheral Plane
Introduction

A strange occurrence has befallen Puddleby, the full implications of which are not completely known yet.

Tenebrion, one of the so-called ‘Brion brothers and one of the most powerful wizards in the Lok’Groton Isles, was found in a state perilously close to death on the Sapphire sector of the Ethereal Plane.

Exiles were eventually able to raise Tenebrion by transporting him to the plane of Purgatory, but now Tenebrion is apparently suffering from amnesia, unable even to recall his own name. Perhaps more importantly, we still do not know what force or entity left Tenebrion near death and comatose on the Ethereal Plane.

Here is a full account of what has transpired, from what I have been able to piece together from the various accounts of the exiles involved.

EP Party Finds Tenebrion

Tenebrion was found in the Sapphire sector of the Ethereal Plane on Sombdi the 56th, at around 9am in the morning by a party of exile adventurers.

These exiles were in the midst of exploring the Ethereal Plane, when they sensed a sudden rush of ether flowing into Purgatory. Three times they sensed this disturbance, each within an hour of each other, according to Jo'Maril, who was a part of the expedition. However, the party did not get to wonder about this phenomenon for long, for they were soon overwhelmed by the creatures of the Ethereal Plane.

The party fled to the Ethereal Tower in the Sapphire sector of the Ethereal Plane, and this is where they encountered Tenebrion, fallen near the magical portal which is located just north-west of the Tower. The party was able to chain Tenebrion, and dragged him into the Tower along with their fallen comrades.

Inside the Tower, however, the party discovered that Tenebrion was severely injured and apparently unconscious. They decided to take him to his Keep, and decide what to do with him there.

Inside Tenebrion's Keep

The exiles dragged Tenebrion to his conference room, and tried to decide what to do with the fallen necromancer. A number of suggestions were made, but in the end it was decided that Tenebrion should be kept in the Keep, while they tried to gather more healers for Tenebrion.

Soon, more exiles began arriving in the conference room, including myself. Several attempts were made to raise Tenebrion, but none were successful. At one point, Tenebrion was given 7 red healing potions, but even with the combined healing power of Dandelion and Lorikeet, we were not able to see any noticeable differences in Tenebrion's condition.

At first, exiles feared that Tenebrion might be truly dead, but Tenebrion's body twitched and convulsed on occasion, showing us that there was at least some life left in the fallen wizard's body.

After a while, Tenebrion began to utter some very strange words. At first, we thought these to be complete nonsense, but we eventually figured out that they were a cipher, similar to the one used for some of the books found in the Ethereal Tower.

Over the course of the next few hours, Tenebrion would utter many strange things in his delirium, some of which are very interesting. I have created a separate scroll listing all of the things that Tenebrion uttered while he was fallen.

We sat around in the conference room listening to Tenebrion's ravings, but we still could not figure out what to do with the fallen 'Brion brother. Eventually, it was decided that we should somehow contact Tenebrion's brother Umbrion, who is one of the most powerful healers in Lok'Groton.

We considered various methods of contacting Umbrion, but we needn't have worried: Umbrion soon arrived in Tenebrion's conference room.

Umbrion Arrives

Umbrion seemed noticeably paler when he first laid eyes on the body of his fallen brother. Then, in a fashion typical of this rash 'Brion brother, he began tossing around fireballs and demanded that we unhand his brother.

After a while we were able to calm Umbrion down, at least to the point where he stopped throwing fireballs at us. However, Umbrion would have none of our explanations. Instead, he took the infamous Klur to his conference room, and had Klur explain to him the current situation. This did not improve matters one bit.

When Umbrion returned with Klur, he was somehow convinced that the state of his fallen brother was the fault of the Mystic Zorton, and tried several times to incinerate him. Only when we revealed the strange things that Tenebrion had been babbling, did Umbrion finally begin to trust us.

Once we were able to dispel the lies of the treacherous Klur, we attempted once more to heal Tenebrion, with the aid of his brother. However, even with Umbrion's enormous healing power, we were still not able to improve the condition of the fallen Tenebrion.

After the healing failed, we asked Umbrion if he knew what his brother had been up to, and he replied that Tenebrion had been conducting "relatively routine" experiments on the Ethereal Plane, and that he did not know what could have brought about the condition of his brother.

Umbrion then implored us to take Tenebrion to Purgatory to heal him, but we told him that we knew of no method to do so. Umbrion then asked us to show him the spot where his brother had been found fallen, so we organized an expedition to the Ethereal Plane. (You can find a full transcript of the conversation with Umbrion here.)

Exiles Investigate the Ethereal Plane

At first, our party tried to enter the Ethereal Plane by getting to the Ethereal Tower via Melabrion's Keep. However, the Mud Golems quickly proved to be too much of a problem for our party. So, instead of going through the Keep, Umbrion created an Ethereal Portal for us with one of his portal stones.

We ended up in the Topaz sector of the Ethereal Plane, just to the south-east of the Ethereal Tower. We spent some time clearing the sector, just in case we needed to retreat, then head into the Sapphire sector.

In the Sapphire sector of EP, we looked around for anything out of the ordinary, but nothing seemed to be amiss. There were a few beasts, but nothing unusual, and the ether levels seemed normal as well.

After checking the Sapphire sector, we headed into the Ethereal Tower. We looked around in Tenebrion's library, but nothing seemed to be disturbed. We checked some of the other levels as well, then headed back to Tenebrion's Keep.

Back in the conference room, Umbrion asked us again to take Tenebrion to Purgatory, telling us that knew of no other way to get Tenebrion healed. Umbrion entrusted his brother in our care, and told us: "Do something if you can. You will be rewarded."

Umbrion then said that he would have a look around Tenebrion's laboratory, and left the conference room. Those of us remaining decided to take Tenebrion to Puddleby.

Tenebrion Taken to Puddleby

In town, many exiles marveled at the body of the fallen necromancer. Some exiles suggested that Tenebrion be dragged to the Abyss, and be rid of him for good, while others tried to think of ways to help Tenebrion. Several attempts were made to heal Tenebrion, with all of the healers in town, but like earlier attempts, each of them failed.

Klur Organizes Expedition to Purgatory

Eventually, the healer Klur decided to get Tenebrion to Purgatory. To accomplish this, he first had Tenebrion's fallen pushed against the altar in town center. He then organized a party to reach the Ethereal Plane.

The party traveled to EP via Cimmbrion's garden maze. The party then tried several different methods to get Tenebrion to Purgatory, including pushing his body against the signs in a Zodiac circle.

The method that finally did work, is an interesting one. The party organized by Klur decided to get Tenebrion to Purgatory by pushing him into the portal on the Sapphire sector of the Ethereal Plane. Previously, it was thought by most exiles that this portal led only to the Abyss. Klur obviously knew different, however, for the party succeeded in transporting Tenebrion to the plane of Purgatory.

Tenebrion in Purgatory

Once Tenebrion was in Purgatory, the healers of Puddleby were gathered to try and heal Tenebrion once and for all. Nearly all of the healers in the lands came to Purgatory to heal Tenebrion, those without Purgatory Pendants going as far as departing to help heal Tenebrion. There were a few skeptics, but the healers eventually succeeded in raising Tenebrion.

Tenebrion's Amnesia

Once Tenebrion was healed successfully, he exited Purgatory and found himself in the Temple in town center. However, all did not appear to be well, for Tenebrion could not seem to remember anything at all about his past. It seemed the necromancer was suffering from a severe case of amnesia!

Several exiles tried to comfort Tenebrion, providing him with food and drink. Tenebrion appeared to be very cold, so the sylvan Perrin provided Tenebrion with a cloak, while others struck up a fire in town center.

Other exiles tried to take advantage of Tenebrion in his vulnerable state. The renowned artist Sor, for example, managed to convince Tenebrion to give him the Portal Stone that Tenebrion had in his hands.

After speaking with exiles for a while, Tenebrion announced that he was tired. A number of exiles suggested that Tenebrion be taken to Fat Alice's hut in the south-western farms. However, Fat Alice's hut proved to be too dangerous with its snakes and bats, so Tenebrion was taken instead to the Purple Tor Inn, where he promptly fell asleep.

To my knowledge, Tenebrion still resides in the Inn, trying to recover from his recent ordeal. (Laiy has provided a transcript of Tenebrion in town, which can be found on Aravir's scrolls.)

End Notes

As I wrote before, the full implications of these events are still not clear. There are also many questions which we do not yet have the answers to.

Will Tenebrion eventually recover his memory on his own, or is further healing needed? Will Tenebrion recover his memory at all?

How will this affect our relations with the 'Brion brothers? Will they be glad that we have been able to raise Tenebrion, or will they be angry that he has lost his memory?

Finally, what exactly is the nature of the "ethereal force" that caused Tenebrion to be hurt in the first place? And who are the "sisters" that Tenebrion spoke of while he was delirious?

Or is this all an elaborate plot for Tenebrion to gain access to Purgatory, as some conspiracy theorists suggested?

Whatever the answers to these questions, I believe that these events will have a profound effect on our relations with the 'Brion brothers and on our understanding of the Ethereal Plane.

Credits

I'd like to thank Callia, Jo'Maril, Entil'Zha, Baffete, and Phiros for providing me with information and sketches about the events concerning Tenebrion. Without them, I would not have the information needed for this scroll. I'd also like to thank Drablak, who's maps I have made constant reference to throughout this report.
