   It's over. Goodbye. (iain d broadfoot - 4:48:39 PM) ->
I'm gone.

Everything that was here has been packed up and moved to http://lj.geeksoc.org/users/ibroadfo/ for safe storage, where I'll hopefully be adding new stuff regularly.

We'll see.

 how to inspire us (iain d broadfoot - 12:47:59 AM) ->
http://www.dreamsongs.com/MobSoftware.html

this is worth reading anyway :) but a few points in particular grab at
me:

"We find little or no code education. Typically a student will write a
few dozen small programs over the course of an undergraduate education,
and perhaps he or she will work on a larger program - such as a
compiler - with a small group of students. At that point, the
student is ready to become a professional programmer. Little or no
mentoring is done after that, and if the student becomes a proficient
programmer, it is due to luck and hard work, in that order."

there's a lot more, but much of the essence is that we students do not
_read_ code, _ever_.

how much happier would 1st years be to be able to look at what the 2nd
years produced last year, and ask questions on it?
