Q: Do you own a video recorderVALENTI: Yes, sir, I do. I am taking somebody else's copyrighted material without their consent and I know damn well I am infringing. But as far as court action or anything else, I am safe. First, it is not a criminal act. Again, the opposition would tell you video, police, and criminals. They show an astonishing lack of the copyright law. They know good and well that that is not a criminal infringement unless you do it for profit. But on the other hand the plaintiffs [i.e. we] have said they are moving against anybody in the homes. There is no problem, but 1 know and everybody else knows they are infringing."
How the hell can this guy know this, say this, and yet, still make up some arbitrary limit to the crimes that he himself is committing? So... he can make copies for his own personal use, and even let friends borrow the stuff... but at some undetermined point, even if no profit is made, this suddenly becomes a big illegal deal? This is extreme bullshit. WTF is this guy even saying?

I think things are starting to get pretty bad when an 81 year old man has to say things like this, but Kurt Vonnegut still knows what the fuck is going on.
It's apparent that the newspapers don't know what the fuck is going on... Brian Carnell points out how the Boston Globe was scooped by World Net Daily because the Globe printed fake torture pictures as fact.
Also, you need to see Tim Russert on the Daily Show... This inteview echos the media's relative lack of ummm.... well... reporting! It also oddly echos the strong sentiment towards family values that Vonnegut talks about (via Russert's new book).
The best clip is an English journalist asking Blair (in front of China!) how the hell we can condem China's human rights when we've (the Coallition) have violated the Geneva Convention in Iraq.
For less tinfoil of a hat, check out The Red Cross report.
On the lighter side... Check out the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie production blog!
