Final Year Honours Project
Project Specification MP3 is a codec that has revolutionised the way many people use their computers and listen to music. Since MP3 has become commonplace, the humble PC has transformed from a useful tool, into a jukebox holding entire music collections. Ignoring the legal issues, it is a fact that MP3 files come from many sources, are encoded by different software, and named according to individual encoders personal preferences, if they are named at all. All of these facts combine to make organising your music files a nightmare.
The invention of ID3 tags, information about a track bound as a header to an MP3 file, has helped, but as yet it seems impossible to discover a piece of Software which utilises ID3 tags as well as other technologies, in order to fulfil all of a persons needs in managing and cataloguing their music library.
There are several packages, which, attempt and in some cases do manage, to ease the burden of managing a music library; however, they all lack certain features, are very un-user-friendly: organising a library remains a time consuming and unpleasant task. This project will aim to develop a piece of software implementing a range of specific functions that will allow the user to not only manage their libraries but also to simplify the process, thus making listening to music the pleasurable pastime it should be.
